Transmission Drain Plug Instructions
Tools you will need:
17mm Socket
17mm Allen Socket
New Transmission Fluid
Procedure:
1. It’s very important to remove the transmission fill plug toward the top of the transmission BEFORE removing the lower drain plug.
2. Then remove the lower drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
3. The new transmission drain plug needs to be wrapped in teflon tape before being installed into the transmission. This will help the threads seal properly. Without the teflon tape it will leak.
4. Wrap the teflon tape flat around the threads of the drain plug. Don’t twist the tape, just wrap it around flat. 5 to 6 full rotations around the drain plug works good. It’s also very important to wrap the tape in the correct direction so it stays in play when being threaded into the transmission. The tape gets wrapped in a counter clockwise direction, like in the picture below.
5. Install the drain plug back in to the transmission and fully tighten.
6. Fill the transmission back up with fluid and install the fill plug.
7. Make sure you check the drain plug after a drive or two, to make sure it’s not leaking.
